Medieval Food - Cooking for the Rich and the Poor

Pottage, spiced hippocras, or medieval gingerbread – some of the wonderful foods being prepared by ‘Discovering Medieval' at this ‘hands on’ event. Come and have a go at making butter in the churn or grinding flour on the quern. Meet the Miller and grind a small bag of flour to take home.

Learn battle tatics



1st - 2nd August 2009
Knight School

Explore the different aspects of being a Knight including displays of historic combat, learn about the myths and realities of armour with demonstrations of ‘how a knight shyal bee armyd’ with audience participation. Visitors will have the chance to handle the displayed swords and armour with interactive workshops for children and adults.



Medieval remedies
15th - 16th August 2009
The Medieval Physician, his medicines and cures…

Meet the physician and hear his gruesome tales on the causes of disease and how diagnosis could be made from a patient’s urine. Children can have a go at making cures for the plague from kitchen herbs and view the many replica tools that will be on display including the surgeon’s bloodletting bowl and his medicinal leeches.

All events to take place from: 11.00am – 4.00pm in the churchyard to the rear of The Canterbury Tales.
All events are included in the ticket price to The Canterbury Tales.

Tickets will be available on the day for those just wishing to visit the event.
