Privacy & cookie policy

Who we are

canterburytales.org.uk is operated by Centraserve Ltd, a company registered in England, which is the data controller for this site. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights below, use the contact form — it is the way to reach us.

What we collect, and why

Server logs

Our web server records each request: IP address, timestamp, the URL requested, the referring page and your browser's user-agent string. This is ordinary web-server logging, kept to keep the site running and to spot abuse. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site. Logs are retained for 30 days and then deleted.

The contact form

If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you type. We use these only to answer you, on the lawful basis of our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries, and delete them once they are no longer needed. The form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA to block automated spam.

Cookies

This site sets only strictly necessary cookies — session and basic security — which UK PECR permits without consent. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not run analytics or tracking of any kind. Google reCAPTCHA, used only on the contact page, sets its own cookies when that page loads.

Who your data is shared with

We do not sell data and we do not share it with anyone except the processors that make the site work: our hosting provider (Akamai/Linode, UK data centres), Cloudflare (content delivery and denial-of-service protection) and Google reCAPTCHA (spam protection on the contact form only). Google may transfer data outside the UK; those transfers rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have data erased, where we have no overriding reason to keep it;
  • restrict or object to our processing, including objecting to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • receive data you gave us in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.

Use the contact form and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Some pages link to other websites. Those sites have their own privacy policies and cookies, which we neither see nor control, and no data about you passes through us when you follow a link.

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
