CELEBRATE THE 800th ANNIVERSARY OF MAGNA CARTA WITH
THE CANTERBURY TALES
- Free activities for kids of all ages! -
Award-winning attraction The Canterbury Tales is offering free activities for youngsters of all ages* as part of the cathedral city’s Magna Carta celebrations this month.
The attraction is also offering 50% off its standard tours for families taking part in the Magna Carta Family Trail, which runs on Saturday June 13, from 10am to 5pm.
The Canterbury Tales garden is one of six locations supporting the event. Visit all six and collect a special seal at each venue to claim a free chocolate medal from the Cathedral Shop at the end of the trail.
Along the way, meet colourful characters from the Magna Carta story and enjoy free, fun, hands-on activities!
In The Canterbury Tales garden youngsters can make lavender bags and also meet the characters Norman the Fuller, a baker’s wife and a female shoemaker.
Canterbury Tales General Manager Lyndsay Ridley says: “The Magna Carta is one of the world’s greatest agreements. Canterbury played a significant part in the making of this historical document – the first imposed upon a King of England by his subjects – so we’re delighted to be playing our part in celebrating what was an integral part of medieval history.”
To take part in the trail and get free entry for children*, simply present the Magna Carta Family Trail leaflet at each participating location. You can pick up the leaflet at The Canterbury Tales or any of the other participating venues – Canterbury Cathedral, Westgate Towers, The Beaney, Canterbury Archaeological Trust and Eastbridge Hospital.

The Canterbury Tales brings to life five of Chaucer’s best-loved stories with tales of love, romance and trickery, vividly recreated with all the fun of his original tales. Its stunningly accurate reconstruction of 14th century England, set inside the former St Margaret’s Church, gives visitors the opportunity to step back in time and experience the sights, smells and sounds of medieval times. Join Chaucer’s band of pilgrims as they embark on a journey from The Tabard Inn to Canterbury Cathedral.
