Come and join ‘The Peculiar Pilgrimage’ as The Canterbury Tales offers fully guided tours for the first time

Visitors have a chance to make their own piece of history this summer by taking part in the very first fully guided tours held at The Canterbury Tales, one of Britain’s favourite attractions.
To mark the 25th anniversary of the award-winning attraction, medieval costumed characters were recruited earlier this year to greet, amuse and entertain visitors. The larger-than-life performers have proved so popular that The Canterbury Tales is introducing a fully guided evening tour on selected nights in August.
“This will be the first time we have ever had visitors escorted around the attraction by a guide and for those lucky people who get to take part it promises to be the highlight of our 25th anniversary celebrations,” said marketing manager Sarah Hirsch.
The Canterbury Tales Live! The Peculiar Pilgrimage, will see visitors – or pilgrims – accompanied by a couple of jovial travelling companions as they follow in the footsteps of Geoffrey Chaucer and his band of pilgrims as they embark on a journey from The Tabard Inn in London to the shrine of St Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral.
The costumed guides will ensure plenty of fun, song and audience participation on a journey which brings to life five of Chaucer’s best-loved stories with tales of love, romance and trickery. Youngsters also have the chance to dress up in medieval costumes to make their visit even more memorable.
The Canterbury Tales Live! The Peculiar Pilgrimage, will take place on 10th, 17th, 24th and 25th August, with escorted tours taking place at 6pm, 6.30pm, 7pm and 7.30pm. Each tour takes up to 15 guests and people are urged to book their visit as soon as possible.

The Canterbury Tales represents an accurate reconstruction of 14th century England, set inside the former St Margaret’s Church. It gives visitors the opportunity to step back in time and experience the sights, smells and sounds of medieval times.
