Come and enjoy children’s fancy dress, archery, bouncy castle and more
A Medieval Fun Day at The Canterbury Tales visitor attraction promises bank holiday entertainment for all the family on Saturday 25 May.
Organisers are building on the success of previous medieval-themed outdoor summer events by adding a host of new features to this year’s fayre, which remains free to visitors.
Old favourites like the have-a-go archery and medieval craftwares will share the churchyard at the rear of the St Margaret’s Street attraction with new features like Knights and Princesses bouncy castle and light-hearted historical tales of knights and their weapons.
Children (and their dads!) are certain to be keen to get their hands on armour, visored helmets, swords and maces which will be on display.
Youngsters of all ages are also being encouraged to turn up in medieval fancy dress and The Canterbury Tales is promising a prize for every knight, squire, archer, princess or monk.
The Canterbury Tales is supporting Pilgrims Hospice this year, and the charity’s mascot, Raffles the bear, will also put in an appearance during the event.
“Our Medieval Fun Day takes place at the start of the half-term holiday and adds a fun spectacle for visitors to The Canterbury Tales and passers-by,” says Ken Broad, duty manager retail at The Canterbury Tales. “Entrance to the churchyard is free and there are plenty of hands-on activities for people to enjoy.”
The Canterbury Tales is celebrating its 25th anniversary and, for the first time, costumed character guides are on hand to entertain, amuse and educate visitors for part of the tour, which brings to life five of Geoffrey Chaucer’s best-loved stories with tales of love, romance and trickery.
The Canterbury Tales provides a great introduction to the cathedral city and its famous literary connection as well as being a hugely entertaining day out for the whole family. Having welcomed more than two million visitors from all over the world, The Canterbury Tales remains one of Kent’s ‘must see’ attractions.
